Artificial rocks
made to order
We design, make and install artificial rocks for water parks, hotels, zoos, shops and gardens: walls, grottos, landscapes and individual boulders. The elements are made in our workshop in Wołów; on site, we only install them.

What artificial rocks
do we make?
A rock wall at reception, a grotto beside a pool or the landscape of a zoo enclosure – the scope need not cover the entire facility. You can commission a single element or bring rocks, water and planting together in one space.

Rock walls and surrounds
Walls behind reception, beside a pool or in a home interior. We also make rock planters and surrounds tailored to existing structures.

Grottos and caves
Rock entrances, passageways and recesses, including around showers. We adapt their size and layout to the way the space is used.

Rock landscapes
Larger compositions for gardens, parks and zoos. We combine rocks of different sizes and allow for water, planting and maintenance access.

GRP, concrete

A similar rock effect can be achieved with different technologies. They differ in weight, time spent working on site and how the decoration performs over the years.

What we consider
in artificial rocks?
A good artificial rock looks convincing up close, withstands conditions on site and can be installed efficiently.
How we work in the workshopMaterial and weight
We make our rocks mainly from GRP (glass-reinforced plastic). At approx. 6 kg/m², they can be installed on walls, beside pools and even on a ship without reinforcing the building's structure.
Texture from real rock
Silicone moulds reproduce the patterns of natural stone. We apply colour by hand in layers until the surface no longer looks like a decoration.
Water, moisture and sun
GRP is waterproof and protected against UV rays. Our rocks are used beside pools, in highly humid indoor spaces and outdoors.
Sectioning and installation
We divide large forms into sections suited to transport and the access route. On site, we join them and conceal the seams so that the whole looks like a single rock.
Prefabrication
More work at our workshop.
Less time at your venue.
Rocks, grottos and scenery elements are made in our workshop in Wołów. We deliver finished, painted elements to the venue and assemble them on site. The area stays closed for as little time as possible, while dust and noise remain in the workshop.
GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) weighs around 6 kg/m² and resists water, moisture and UV rays. Where the location requires it, we work entirely at the client's site, as at a campsite in the Alps.
Ordering step by step
How to order
artificial rocks?
From a photograph of the space to the finished rock on site – usually in four steps.
How we work- 01
Photographs and dimensions
Photographs of the space, approximate dimensions and a few words about the intended effect are enough. We use these to propose a direction.
- 02
Form and quote
We agree the shape, depth of sculpting, colour and division into sections. We prepare a quote with a schedule.
- 03
Production in the workshop
We cast the texture, join the elements, sculpt the transitions and paint by hand.
- 04
Installation
We bring the finished elements, install them and conceal the seams – in days, rather than weeks.
What should I prepare for a quotation?
Photographs of the space, approximate dimensions, location, planned date and – if available – a design or inspiration.
What are GRP artificial rocks?
An artificial rock is a lightweight, durable shell that looks like natural stone up close. At StoneDeco, we make it from GRP (glass-reinforced plastic). The surface pattern is not sculpted by eye – we cast it in silicone moulds taken from real rocks. This makes the cracks, layers and small irregularities look natural even from just a few dozen centimetres away.
GRP weighs approx. 6 kg/m², so rocks can be installed on partition walls, beside pools, on roofs and floors, and even on a ship – usually without reinforcing the building's structure.
Where do artificial rocks work well?
- Water parks, thermal baths and swimming pools – grottos, passageways, slide surrounds and walls beside the water. See decorations for water parks and swimming pools.
- Hotels and spas – walls behind reception, rock pool areas and grottos in relaxation areas. Read more on our page about decorations for hotels and spas.
- Zoos and theme parks – enclosure landscapes and concealment of technical infrastructure, as in ZOO Hellabrunn.
- Shops and trade fairs – rock product displays, e.g. 80 m² of rocks in a shop in Paris.
- Homes and gardens – rock gardens with water, interior walls and equipment covers. See rock decorations for the garden and home.
How is an artificial rock made in our workshop?
- Concept and sectioning. Using photographs, plans or a design, we agree the shape, size and division into sections that will fit through doors and into transport.
- Casting the texture. We cast the rock surface in silicone moulds, reinforcing it layer by layer with glass fibre mat.
- Joining and sculpting. We assemble the elements into larger forms and sculpt the transitions and edges so that no repeating pattern is visible.
- Colour. We paint by hand in several layers – from dark washes in recesses to light highlights on edges. We match the colour to the final lighting.
- Installation. On site, we join the elements, conceal the seams and refine the details until the whole looks like a single rock.
How much do artificial rocks cost?
There is no single price per square metre, because a metre of flat cladding and a metre of grotto with a passageway involve entirely different amounts of work. The main factors affecting the cost are:
- surface area and depth of sculpting (a flat wall, relief or three-dimensional form),
- level of detail and number of colours,
- additional features: water, lighting, planters, service access panels,
- transport, access route and installation conditions (e.g. night work in an operating facility).
When should you choose GRP, and when sprayed concrete?
Artificial rocks are also made from concrete sprayed onto mesh directly on site. This suits very large load-bearing forms, but means weeks of on-site work, dust and moisture. GRP allows most work to be moved to the workshop, reducing installation to days or nights. We compare the two technologies in our article Artificial rocks made from GRP or concrete?.
Durability and care
GRP does not absorb water or crumble, and does not need sealing every season. Everyday care only requires washing with water and a mild cleaner; in pool areas, we agree cleaning methods with the maintenance team. We repair mechanical damage locally – we also provide repair and renovation of GRP products.
What do you make artificial rocks from?+
Mainly GRP (glass-reinforced plastic), a resin reinforced with glass fibre mat. We cast the surface in silicone moulds taken from real rocks, then join, sculpt and paint it by hand. The finished rock weighs approx. 6 kg/m² and resists water, moisture and UV rays.
How much do artificial rocks cost?+
The price depends on the surface area, depth of sculpting, level of detail, colour, and transport and installation conditions. Flat wall cladding costs differently from a grotto with a passageway or a rock with a waterfall. We prepare a quote based on photographs of the space, approximate dimensions and the proposed date.
Are artificial rocks suitable for gardens and outdoor use?+
Yes. Our rocks remain outdoors all year round – in gardens near Kraków, in Dresden and Dortmund, and in zoo enclosures. We protect the surface against UV rays and choose fixings to suit the substrate.
How long do production and installation take?+
We do most of the work in our workshop, so installation is brief. We prepared the scenery at Suntago over approx. 4 weeks and worked on site for 5 working days. We installed over 50 metres of rock cladding on a house in Dresden in 3 days.
Can you recreate a rock from a photograph?+
A photograph gives a good indication of the direction: the stone's pattern, proportions and colour. We use it to select moulds, the arrangement of elements and colours so that the rock suits the space as well as resembling the photograph.
Do you install artificial rocks abroad?+
Yes. We have completed projects in Germany, France, Switzerland, Ireland and Italy, as well as on the cruise ship AIDAvita in the port of Palermo. We transport the elements from Poland and install them with our own team.
