Rocky enclosure
for hyraxes.

Around 100 m² of rocks, eight days of on-site work and sculpting with numerous ledges. At a German zoo, we created a structure inspired by the hyraxes' natural habitat. Places where the animals can sit were essential.

Our work on this project: Making around 100 m² of enclosure rock decorations, with extensive sculpting and ledges.

Rock ledges
were the starting point.

Hyraxes like to sit on rock ledges. That is why the heart of this commission was a rich, varied structure with places at different heights. Their natural habitat provided the inspiration.

The enclosure's sculpting has a specific purpose here. If you are planning a similar arrangement, it is worth starting with the animals' needs and keepers' observations, then translating them into rock forms.

Many different surfaces.

Irregular angles, recesses and projections give the wall depth. From a distance, you see a continuous landscape; up close, individual places and surface divisions.

We made around 100 m² of decorations. On-site work took eight days. The form followed the use of the rocks in this particular enclosure.

Can rock sculpting account for animals' needs?

This principle guided the hyrax project. Numerous ledges were essential, inspired by the natural habitat. For another enclosure, we need information from keepers about the species and the function of each area.

How large was this project?

Around 100 m² of rock decorations. On-site execution took eight days. These figures describe the hyrax enclosure; we will agree the scope of the next project separately.

Will a similar enclosure also take eight days?

Timing depends on the area, complexity of sculpting and working conditions. Eight days was the duration of this project. We will discuss your schedule after learning the brief.

What determines the quotation?

The size and number of elements, complexity of their shape, texture and finish, and the scope of on-site work. We discuss transport and installation alongside the project. Please send dimensions, photographs of the space and your planned date so we can define the specific scope.

What should I send to get started?

Please tell us the animal species, enclosure dimensions and keepers' requirements. Photographs of the site and natural habitat inspiration will help. We will discuss structure, ledges and decoration layout.
