Artificial grottos
and rock caves
We make grottos, caves and rock passages for water parks, spas, theme parks and gardens. We design the interior for safe, convenient use and the exterior to resemble natural rock.
Shower grottos · Snow grottos · Caves and tunnels

- 200 m²
- cave beside a water playground in Germany
- 1 evening
- installation of the snow grotto in Istebna
- over 6 m
- grotto with a shower beside a private pool
Types of grotto
Four types of grotto,
four sets of requirements.
We design a grotto containing a shower differently from a tunnel used by hundreds of guests every day.

Shower grotto
Rock enclosure for a shower beside a pool or in a spa – with space for fittings, drainage and maintenance access.
Shower in a rock cave
Snow grotto and spa grotto
Materials and fixings selected for low temperatures and moisture, with LED lighting concealed in the rock.
Snow grotto in Istebna
Tunnel and passage
Rock entrances and passages between areas of a water park or park – with safe edges and suitable height.
Cave in a water park
Scenic cave
Larger forms for film sets and themed venues, with surfaces finished for the camera.

Grottos and caves
in our projects
A cave beside a water playground, a snow grotto in a wellness area and a rock shower in a garden.

Cave and skull at a water park
Around 200 m² of rocks and a sculpted skull at the entrance to the water area. We developed the client's idea into a design and built it as a subcontractor.
- 200 m² rocks made
- Our own design based on the client's idea
- Subcontracting role in the project
- Children's zone passage to the water playground

A grotto that works
in everyday use
People enter a grotto, pass through it and clean it. We establish these needs before making it.
How we work in the workshopPassage dimensions and edges
We establish passage height and width, edge shapes and the surfaces guests will touch.
Supporting structure
A grotto can clad an existing structure. In Germany, we enclosed a passage's steel structure in a rock cave.
Light and water
We plan positions for light fittings, LED strips and drains. In the snow grotto in Istebna, installing LED lighting was within our scope.
Moisture and cleaning
We select the finish for the conditions in the area and agree how staff will clean the surface.
Prefabrication
A grotto installed
in one evening.
Grotto elements are made in the workshop with spaces for lighting and drainage. At the venue, we assemble them and conceal the joints, returning the area to guests quickly.
Ordering step by step
How is
artificial grotto?
We design a grotto from the inside out: first its use, then the rock's appearance.
How we work- 01
Layout and use
Height, entrance width, visitor flow, water, temperature and light.
- 02
Structure and form
We establish whether the grotto is self-supporting or clads a structure, and divide it into elements.
- 03
Production in the workshop
Casting, joining forms, sculpting the interior and painting by hand.
- 04
Installation and light
We assemble the grotto on site, install the agreed lighting and conceal the joints.

Where are artificial grottos built?
- Water parks and swimming pools – passages between areas, grottos beside paddling pools, and decoration for slides and water playgrounds.
- Spa and wellness – snow grottos, shower grottos and illuminated relaxation niches.
- Theme parks and zoos – tunnels, attraction entrances and caves along visitor routes.
- Private gardens – a grotto with a shower beside the pool, a niche beside a hot tub or a rock pavilion.
Grotto structure and rock shell
A grotto has two layers: a load-bearing structure and the rock shell that guests see. We make the shell from GRP (glass-reinforced plastic), cast in moulds taken from real rocks. It is lightweight (around 6 kg/m²), so smaller forms need only a light frame; for larger ones, we clad an existing steel or reinforced-concrete structure.
What do we consider when designing a grotto?
- Passage dimensions – height, width and edges where guests pass through and touch the rock.
- Light – we plan positions for fittings and LED strips alongside the form, keeping light sources hidden in the rock.
- Water and moisture – drains, falls and finishes resistant to water, chlorine and cleaning products.
- Maintenance – inspection openings, staff access and easy surface cleaning.
Snow, salt and shower grottos – how do they differ?
A snow grotto needs materials and fixings resistant to low temperatures and condensation. This is how we made the snow grotto in Istebna. A shower grotto is in constant contact with water, making waterproofing and falls essential. These are agreed with the bathroom or pool contractor. We discuss every area separately, because its conditions determine the solutions.
How is a grotto built?
- Discussion and materials: plan, photographs, heights and description of use.
- Form concept and division into transportable elements.
- Workshop production: casting, joining, sculpting and painting.
- On-site assembly and concealing the joints – at a water park in Germany this process created a cave with a sculpted skull at the entrance to the children's area.
We often combine grottos with other elements: rock walls, waterfalls and planting. If the grotto is for a water area, find more on the page decorations for water parks and swimming pools.
Does a grotto need its own structure?+
Smaller grottos and niches are self-supporting. Larger caves and tunnels clad a steel or timber structure, built by another team or agreed within our scope. At a water park in Germany, we enclosed a passage's steel structure in a rock cave covering around 200 m².
Can a grotto surround a shower?+
Yes, our portfolio includes such projects, including a grotto over six metres long with a shower beside a private pool. For a new area, we agree water contact, drainage, waterproofing and access to fittings with the designer.
Do you make snow grottos and spa grottos?+
Yes. In Istebna, we made a snow grotto with LED lighting: 20 m² of rocks prepared in the workshop in one week and installed in one evening. Materials and fixings are selected for the area's temperature and humidity.
How much does an artificial grotto cost?+
The cost depends on the interior's size and shape, number of passages, surfaces seen close up, lighting and water installations. We prepare a quotation from a plan or site photographs and a description of how the grotto will be used.
Can a grotto be combined with a rock wall or waterfall?+
Yes. We design a shared form and finish so the grotto, walls and water make one composition. Spillways and water circulation are agreed with the installer.
